WATCH: Last week Labour MPs took a stand against the oath of allegiance

Last week several Labour MPs took a stand against the oath of allegiance to the Queen.

Despite fighting for your vote over the course of the election campaign, MPs are forced to pledge allegiance to the Queen:

“I do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Her Heirs and Successors, according to Law.”

If an MP refuses to take the oath they are banned from parliamentary proceedings.

But last week several Labour MPs made it clear that they were elected to serve their constituents, not an unelected Monarch.

You can watch some of them in action below:

If you agree with them then please sign Republic’s petition calling for an oath allegiance to the people – NOT the Queen at http://www.republic.org.uk/peoples-oath.

Thanks for your support.

Best wishes,

Matt and the Labour for a Republic team
